With Olympic dreams already shattered by South Korea yesterday, China added more insult to injury as they won over the Philippines, 127-49 in their respective final games of the FIBA Women's Olympic Pre-Qualifying Asian Tournament Sunday afternoon at the Trusts Arena in Auckland, New Zealand.
Imposing their height advantage with no mercy, China then put more misery to the smaller Gilas Women as they piled on their supremacy to clinch one of the two spots to the FIBA World Olympic Qualifying Tournament after finishing Group A with a 2-1 card.
China more than tripled the Filipinas' rebounding output as they pulled down 69 boards, with Patrick Aquino's ladies can only muster 21. Overall, the Asian powerhouse shot 58% from the field in a dominant display.
The dominance is clear as day as even without the 75 bench points, its starter production can still beat the scoring output of the whole of Gilas.
Xu Han flexed its muscles to pour in 26 points off the bench for China, where Wang Xuemeng adding a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds.
For the Philippines, Janine Pontejos took over the scoring chores from Afril Bernardino, hitting 16 points as the lone woman in double figures.
The scores:
China 127 -- Han 26, Wang X 14, Li Ye 14, Huang 12, Wang S 11, Yang 10, Sun 10, Pan 8, Gao 8, Li Ya 8, Li M 6.
