simple, "kapag nag relax kayo, tatalunin tayo niyan (Braves)!"
Not wanting to succumb in getting complacent again, the Greenies responded with a 10-1 blast to start off the third chapter. Jiam Quiambao and RC Calimag took charge and got the engine going for CSB-LSGH. Both teams would figure in a back and forth reign of buckets, which heavily favored the green shirts still- as the Braves struggled to get stops after scoring the basketball.
The trend would slightly deluge the Greenies' as they tried to sail away in the payoff period as the Legarda-based squad would knock on the door for the final time midway through the final quarter- riding Chris Recto's lead during a 12-5 run to cut the deficit down to just three, 63-60.
But the hungrier team in the endgame, the Greenies would catch fire for an 11-3 finishing kick in the final three minutes of play, led by senior point guard Kobe Palencia, as he seals the deal for CSB-LSGH's fifth win in seven outings.
RC Calimag led the victor in scoring with 19 points, four rebounds and a perfect clip from the charity stripe. Kobe Palencia and Jiam Quiambao finished with 17 and 13 markers respectively. JC Macalalag added six points and six rebounds.
Jolo Manansala topped the notable performances in this win. After hauling down 13 big boards in this game, Jolo had a bounce back game individually and he credits the experience he got from their painful loss in the previous game.
"Siguro yung inspiration ko is yung mga aral na sinasabi saakin ni Coach Karl. Kasi last game medyo madami nanaman akong iniisip during the game and nag result sa bad performance. Ngayon, ginawa ko lang yung pinapagawa sakin, naglaro lang ako and binigay ko yung makakaya ko at yun ay yung mga rebounds." Jolo on his solid output in the rebounding category.
A revelation in this win was Jesse Arciaga's efficiency in nearly 21 minutes of playing time. He stepped up in the absence of injured fellow big man, Raffy Arguelles and contributed 10 points, five rebounds, one steal and shot a sky-high 80% from the field.
That loss from Letran was indeed a wake up call, and Gian was one of the players who made the decision to man up and work every single game.
"Right before the game, sinabi na ni coach na dapat naging lesson na yung game against Letran. Nag kulang kami sa effort and dun kami natalo."
He also shared that motivation came from non another than his coaches and teammates, specifically his fellow big man.
"Ginawa kong inspiration yun instructions ng coaches, na dapat all-out sa game. Si Arguelles hindi naglaro, so I told Raffy before the game, kinausap ko siya, sabi ko I will play for him, I will step up and take his place in this game at yun yung nagawa ko.''
CSB-LSGH would need more of what they saw from the troop in this win.
The next two assignments would test how they will respond to the challenge of fellow final four contenders, as LPU and JRU wraps up round one for the Greenies.
They will have two days to prepare for their Friday evening clash against the Lyceum Jr. Pirates on August 16, 6:00pm at the Fil Oil Flying V Center in San Juan City.
