COVID-19 Pandemic: An Eye-Opener to the World of Sports

Seasons suspended, practices banned, works stopped, players infected.

Unfortunately, even the world of sports is heavily-devastated by the alarming spread of the 2019 Novel Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) as it forced all major and minor leagues to indefinitely suspend their competitions with the 2020 Tokyo Olympics being the latest one to be affected as the Japan Games got postponed until 2021. What is worse is the fact that this disease continues to spread out like wildfire and unlike a wildfire who can be extinguished by either water or rain, there's no end to COVID-19 in sight just yet as scientists from around the globe are working tirelessly to develop a vaccine against the said disease.

In effect, the COVID-19 pandemic serves as an eye-opener not just to the world of sports but to everyone in general. This pandemic proves that health is always and will always be the biggest wealth anyone can have. The fact that even some of the players in the National Basketball Association (NBA) have been infected by the said disease is proof that anyone can get sick and that, anyone is a potential victim.

The good news though: affected patients can make a full-recover as long as proper procedures are undertaken. And among the NBA players who tested positive, Christian Wood of the Detroit Pistons has been reported to have fully-recovered from COVID-19. Other NBA players are said to be feeling better too.

Another reason why the COVID-19 pandemic is an eye-opener to everyone?

If we don't take this one seriously, it will cost more lives and considering the alarming growth in the numbers of fatalities from the COVID-19 especially in countries like Italy, In other words, Karl Anthony-Towns of the Minnesota Timberwolves is right in saying that even though we can beat COVID-19, we must take every precaution we can take to ensure that we do our part in preventing the seemingly unstoppable spread of the disease.  In short, if we do our part, we might just be able to watch NBA games sooner than later.

After all, this is a battle and if we work as a team alongside our government, we can win this battle.
