Chess Dancing

Why Chess Dancing? Because the second part of the program was about professional chess and cheer dancing. We asked National University cheer dancing coach Coach Ghicka, what has she done during the “offseason” to better herself as coach.

If you’re coach of a successful cheer dance program, your coaching must continuously evolve, adapt and adjust because your rival coaches are working hard to take the title away from you. If the Coach evolves, then the cheer dancers evolve as well. What worked to win the title before may not work this time.

Philippine chess Grandmaster Rogelio “Joey” Antonio was asked by this writer if there’s any scouting going on to prepare players for their opponents. According to Antonio, “there’s a database of players” that they can access. This database contains information on what opening the player usually starts with. It also includes the defense they employ to protect their pieces.

Mr. Lester Castillo of MILO and Undersecretary Umali of DepEd were the guests of the first half of the program. We would’ve asked Mr. Castillo what’s in store for MILO for the second quarter of the year.
