Balanga and Pasig topped their respective groups in the 2019 FIBA 3x3 World Tour Masters held at the Katara Amphitheatre in Doha, Qatar last April 18.
The Balanga Chooks beat 2019 Wuxi Challenger champion Riga Ghetto of Latvia, 19-17, and won over Moscow Inanomo in overtime, 20-19, behind a two-point game-winner by Alvin Pasaol, to the delight of Filipino fans in the venue to go 2-0 in Group C.
The Pasig Chooks was not to be outdone as it beat Katara, 21-14, before stunning world number one Liman of Serbia, 19-16, to also sweep Group A.
Both Balanga and Pasig enter as the top-seed in their group heading into the quarterfinals slated on April 19. Balanga will face Liman and Pasig takes on Riga Ghetto in the quarterfinals slated April 19.
“Our teams showed the world what we have been doing for the last three months,” said Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3x3 commissioner Eric Altamirano, who is part of the delegation in Doha. “Unlike past teams that were confused with the rules, Pasig and Balanga only made a few mental mistakes during their games. In addition, they were disciplined.”
