Ayonayon lifts San Juan to close win over Bacoor

The San Juan Knights defeated the Bacoor Strikers, 77-76, last June 14 to open their bid for a second straight title on a high note in the MPBL Lakan Cup at the STRIKE Gym.

Michael Ayonayon scored a jumper with 18 seconds left to break a 74-74 tie with the Knights forcing a turnover that led to Larry Rodriguez scoring on one of two free throws for a three-point lead.

RJ Ramirez hit two free throws to close the gap but there was too little time left for the Strikers to escape with the win before a packed home crowd.

Ayonayon finished with 22 points and 10 rebounds for the Knights. He also got support from John Wilson, who scored 16 points. Jhonard Clarito had 16 points and 13 rebounds for the Knights.

Larry Rodriguez also had a double-double as the Go For Gold and Cherry Mobile-backed ballclub had 12 points and 14 rebounds for the Knights.
