Australia ends Gilas Pilipinas Women campaign in FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup 2019

Gilas Pilipinas Women put on a gallant stand before bowing to Australia, 21-16, last May 26 in the quarterfinals of the FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup 2019 in Changsha, China.

The Philippines held a 4-1 lead to start off the match but was unable to maintain that advantage. Alice Kunek hit a crucial shot for Australia after the Philippines was able to cut the deficit to one point, 16-15.

Janine Pontejos had eight points in the match to lead the Gilas Pilipinas Women in scoring to end their campaign in the FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup.

It was still a respectable performance for the Philippine women’s team which had to go through the qualifiers in order to reach this far.

In the qualifying draw, Gilas Pilipinas Women swept their group by defeating Samoa and Chinese Taipei. The Philippines went 1-1 in pool play, beating Sri Lanka enough to advance into the quarterfinal round.
