ANZ Basketball Aims to Provide Work-Life Balance to its Employees

The ANZ Basketball Club opened its third iteration of their basketball league at The Upper Deck East last Sunday afternoon as part of their advocacy to provide an avenue of work-life balance for their employees.

With managing director Steve Harris and club president Gian Carlo Enriquez as organizers, bigger things are expected for this on-going initiative.

Seven men’s teams and four women’s teams are expected to participate in the festivities.

Steve Harris and Gian Carlo Enriquez, who are avid basketball fans themselves, recalls on how the league was formed.

“I’m a big fan of basketball and I love to watch the NBA. My kids grew up watching basketball. Basketball is in my blood, which is why when (Gian) asked if whether we can start the league, I said yes,” said Harris.

“Every year meron kaming yearly proposal sa mga ganitong activities and sila naga-approve nyan. Ako basically magpo-propose about sa basketball. Good thing na-approve niya kasi nakikita naman niya ‘yung [results]. Ang importante sa kanya, maraming engagement – gusto niya na maraming taong sasali,” said Enriquez.

Coming in to their third year, both are happy with the turnout of the league, as it encourages a healthier lifestyle for their employees. 

With the company emphasizing in building strong relationships between the company and its clients, Steve Harris believes that this league can do the same for their employees as well, given for their undying love for the game.

“Most of the players you’ll see playing during work, they’re either on the phones or helping the customers process their credit cards being part of the financial tech support for the bank. These people spend a lot of time on the weekends playing basketball and that’s good,” said Harris.

“I love it. Every time I come to these events, it’s nice to see these people outside of the work environment. Being in the Philippines for three years now, I realized that your workplace is your second home and when you come out to these events, you can see the people bond,” he ended.
