Alex Eala scores sweeping win to open her French Open stint

Filipina tennis sensation Alex Eala had to do the hard way for her debut win at the 2020 French Open, overcoming a sluggish start to beat Natalia Szabanin in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1 in the Girls' singles play Sunday eveniing, Manila time.

Seeded second in the Grand Slam event, the fifteen year-old who is a scholar of the fabled Rafa Nadal Academy in Spain faced an opening set deficit before fighting back to finish the Hungarian off in court 4.

A lefty like the undisputed King Of Clay who won a record 12 men's singles titles in Roland Garros, Eala had her serve broken twice before winning the next six games to take the first set, as she got the much needed break in the ninth with a Szabanin double fault.

Eala, who had dominated the match despite having more double faults than the unseeded Hungarian, breezed past the second set as she overcame her break in the fourth to take the match in just 70 minutes, with the German Mara Guth her next opponent which with take place within Monday evening, Manila time.
