Considering how things are looking in both the local and international scenes, most basketball fans have started to look forward to 2021. But for us basketball-crazy Filipino fans, we have something to look forward to and that's the 2023 International Basketball Federation (FIBA) World Cup where the Philippines has long been announced as one of three host countries alongside Japan and Indonesia- marking it the first time that the World Cup will be played not just in one country but three countries.
Today, FIBA has officially announced the schedule of the 2023 showpiece as it is slated from August 23 to September 10, 2023. The best thing about is that the final phase of the World Cup will happen right here in our own backyard and that's something to be excited about as the best basketball squads in the world will compete in the final phase in front of the basketball-loving Filipino fans. In a statement, Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) President Al Panlilio said that "this is certainly positive news as it is something to look forward to amidst the difficult situation that the entire world is facing right now". He also assured us, basketball fans, that the SBP officials will work hand-in-hand despite the limitations of our current situation to guarantee that our country's co-hosting of the FIBA World Cup will be something that we'll all remember and most importantly, it will be a co-hosting that all of us will be proud of.
