Freddy Ibrahim Debuts for Abra Weavers in Tune-Up Win Ahead of EASL

The Abra Weavers defeated the Omni Erdenet Miners of Mongolia, 93-73, in a tune-up game on Friday, September 25, at the Ynares Arena in Pasig as they continue their preparations for the upcoming East Asia Super League (EASL) campaign.

One of the main highlights of the game was the first appearance of new recruit Freddy Ibrahim in a Weavers uniform. Ibrahim was one of four new players who suited up for Abra, along with Jaylen Johnson, Michael Eric, and Malick Diouf.

The Weavers controlled the game early, but the Miners, led by former NBA player KJ McDaniels, made a run in the third quarter as Abra continued to test different player combinations and build team chemistry. The Weavers responded in the fourth quarter to secure the 20-point victory.

For Ibrahim, his first game with Abra was also an opportunity to get more familiar with his new teammates and the coaching staff. Since arriving in the Philippines, he said the team has been welcoming.

“My teammates are super super nice, the coaching staff are nice, uh… the weather is very hot but, everything is good you know. We’re here to play basketball, everyday we’re getting better.”

This is not Ibrahim's first time playing in the Philippines. Last August 28, he scored 22 points, including 4-of-6 from three-point range, along with four rebounds, five assists, and four steals as Jordan narrowly lost to Gilas Pilipinas, 82-81, in overtime.

Now playing for Abra, Ibrahim will be another key player in Coach Yong Garcia’s system as the Weavers prepare for their EASL campaign.

Ibrahim said he is focused on contributing to the team and helping the Weavers make the most of their current roster.

“We have a really good team, and we could really do big things. Our first game is [on] October 3rd, hopefully that goes well and then we’ll just keep building game by game.”

Abra will open its EASL campaign on October 3 at the SM Seaside Arena in Cebu, with the Weavers continuing to work on their chemistry and rotations ahead of their first international tournament.
