The Pinoyliga Juniors Cup returned for its second season on Sunday, June 21 - fittingly, Father's Day - with a doubleheader at the Enderun Colleges Gym that set an early tone for what's to come. Since its inauguration in 2024, the Juniors Cup has carved out its own identity as a proving ground for the next wave of collegiate talent, and Season 2 picked up right where it left off.
The timing of the opener added extra meaning to the day. Families filled the stands, parents and siblings cheering on their sons as they took the floor, a fitting way to kick off a season built around the next generation.
Game 1 | JRU Light Bombers def. UMAK Junior Herons, 83-80
The JRU Light Bombers came in carrying momentum from their NCAA Juniors 3x3 title, looking to establish their disciplined system early in what was already their second game of the day. The Junior Herons, who had only resumed practice the week prior following a roster shakeup, grabbed the early lead in the first quarter, but JRU's defense clamped down, limiting UMAK's field goal attempts and building a 16-point cushion.
UMAK refused to fade, with Nacion finishing 18 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 blocks as the Herons cut the deficit to three in the final two minutes. But JRU's composure down the stretch sealed the 83-80 win. Justin Santos anchored the defense with 5 blocks and 9 rebounds, John Lord Cruz added 16 points on 5-of-8 shooting inside the paint, and MVP Mharkie Navera led all scorers with 23 points on 50% shooting, plus 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals.
Game 2 | EAC Brigadiers def. Enderun Young Titans, 102-80
The EAC Brigadiers, an NCAA program and last season's quarterfinalists, faced off against the newly formed Enderun Young Titans, a squad assembled less than a month ago with a short roster. Under Coach Noy's team-first system, EAC began pulling away in the second quarter and carried a commanding 20-point lead into halftime, controlling the pace and converting points off forced turnovers throughout.
Enderun never stopped competing. Kian Diva led with 23 points and 4 steals, Jacob Datu added 19 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists, and Miekho Natinga chipped in 19 points on 58% shooting. But the Young Titans' 36% team shooting told the story of a roster still finding its footing. MVP Xyriel Luis Macahipay led EAC with 15 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist, and 2 blocks as the Brigadiers pulled away for the 102-80 win.
