When the final buzzer sounded at the Playtime Filoil EcoOil Centre, the stat sheet recorded a staggering performance for Justine Sanchez: 27 points anchored on 7-of-8 three-pointers and an overtime victory against the Perpetual Help Altas. But for the College of Saint Benilde forward, the numbers barely scratched the surface of a much deeper transformation.
With primary pillars like Allen Liwag sidelined due to injury, Justine Sanchez stepped up not just as a scorer, but as the steady anchor for the Blazers.
"For Justin, I've personally seen his growth over the past three years," shared Benilde head coach Paolo Layug. "He's always been talented, but the biggest difference for him at least over this past year has been maturity. Justin really took over that leadership role, and it's starting to show in our team."
What makes Justine Sanchez’s evolution compelling is his willingness to confront his past self. Growth required humility, and he held nothing back when evaluating his journey.
"Totoo 'yun, 'yung maturity ko, sobrang nag-level up na. Dati kasi, sorry ah, pero sakit talaga ako sa ulo, e," candidly confessed Justine Sanchez. "Dati kasi ako puro lumiliko, e... e gusto ni Coach Charles [Tiu] diretso lang. Ang ginusto ko lang kasi talaga is magbago."
Beyond his personal growth, Justine Sanchez dedicated his career-best game to his teammates who were unable to suit up.
"Ginagawa ko 'to para sa mga kapatid ko na injured," he added. "Binubuhos ko lahat 'to para sa kanila."
While a 27-point game anchored on seven three-pointers will always look impressive on paper, Justine Sanchez's true masterpiece lies in the bigger picture. From a self-confessed liability to a battle-tested captain, his growth into a steadfast leader reflects the very heart of Saint Benilde’s championship drive proving that his biggest transformation happened far beyond the stat sheet.
