Defending champs Senate Advocates crush MMDA D’ Enforcers, 122-61, en route to third straight victory
Proving they are the champions last season and still title favorites this year, Senate Advocates drubbed out MMDA D’ Enforcers, 122-61, in Makabansa Basketball League at Meralco Fitness Center last October 11. Senate showed no mercy to their opponents, launching full assault from start to finale. The Bracket C leaders kept on pounding MMDA’s basket while maintaining tight defense on their side. Even after establishing a large lead, Advocates continued to plow through, further elevating their supremacy on both ends of the floor. Every man called from the bench also contributed in their own way leading to an almost perfect game for the powerhouse squad. Six players finished the game with double digits in scoring but it was Senator Joel Villanueva who provided spark since the beginning. Sen. Villanueva fired two triples and completed a pair of fastbreak shots in the opening period. He also dished out three nifty dimes to pace Advocates’ aggressive start. Through his valiant efforts, Senate established dominating lead of 32-9 at end of first period.
Sen. Villanueva concluded the match with 20 points, eight assists, and two steals under his name. Marksman Joey Flaminiano sizzled with 15 markers, all coming from downtown. Executive cager Rodelio Dascil chipped in 10 points too in their blowout win. Rommel Balboa, Garri Sevilla, and Richard Diño contributed 10 points apiece. More than scoring, Balboa provided defensive inside presence which thwarted most of MMDA’s penetrations. Sevilla grabbed nine boards and six assists too while Diño finished with seven dimes across his name. Jarred Fortu maintained his impressive performance for MMDA but it proved to be not enough in leading them to victory. Fortu tallied 16 points and seven rebounds in their losing effort. Johnson Francisco added 11 buckets and six boards as well.
Senate will next take on Office of the President Kamao while MMDA will mettle against DOE Energizers. Both matches are scheduled on October 18 at Meralco Fitness Center. -- Kings of the Court
